Coal Powered : The ecological, economic, social, and health effects of Mountaintop Removal Mining in Appalachia.

We’ll follow the path of coal, literally and historically, connecting it to our daily lives and explore the damaging effects of Mountaintop Removal mining on the land and the people living in the coal region. While the health and climate effects of burning of coal and the storage of coal ash is widely discussed (and worthy of its own discussion), we will focus on the marginalizing effects that harvesting coal has on the health and well-being of people in the coal region and the entrenched power structures they are up against.

Writer, editor, and activist Scott Goebel lives in Campbell County, Ky. An Appalachian Steward and active with Kentuckians for the Commonwealth, Scott welcomes the chance to organize groups for Mountain Witness tours in the coal region.
